Background of Batangas State University

Batangas State University (BatStateU), formerly Pablo Borbon Memorial Institute of Technology, was founded in 1903 and gained university status in 2001 through Republic Act No. 9045. It operates across multiple campuses in Batangas Province, including major units in Pablo Borbon, Alangilan, Lipa, Malvar, and Nasugbu, serving over 50,000 students and producing 10,000 graduates annually.

 

Renowned for engineering, business, and research excellence, BatStateU has been a top performing school, especially in mechanical engineering, and has produced 204 top-notchers in various licensure exams as of 2022. The university is a significant employer in the region, with 2,024 staff, and maintains strong ties with industries and academic institutions through on-the-job training programs. BatStateU has expanded its global reach by promoting international collaboration and admitting foreign students. It earned recognition as a SUC Level IV university and received a 3-star rating from Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The university is also ISO 9001:2015 certified for quality assurance. In 2020, BatStateU adapted to remote learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic, using Google Classroom as its official Learning Management System. It also launched the country’s first Knowledge, Innovation, Science, and Technology (KIST) Park, positioning itself as a leader in national development. In 2022, BatStateU was declared the National Engineering University by Republic Act No. 11694, with a mission to produce global leaders in engineering, science, entrepreneurship, and other fields.

GUILD Summit; Celebrated BatStateU’s 120th Founding Anniversary and first year as the

cooperation with the Embassy of India through the BatStateU KIST Park.

By virtue of Republic Act No. 11694, Batangas State University became the first and only 
National Engineering University in the Philippines. 

2023

Ranked 128th in the 2024 World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI); Positioned 
between 601st and 800th in 2024 THE Impact Rankings among 2,152 universities; Has been 
awarded by the DTI the 2024 Presidential Recognition for Outstanding Development Partners 
under the Access to Technology and Innovation category for its pioneering Knowledge, 
Innovation, and Science Technology (KIST) Park; Launched the National Engineering Education 
Development (NEED) Program to redefine engineering education in the Philippines.

With over 61,000 students facilitated by 2,600 faculty and staff across 11 campuses in Academic Year 2022-2023, Batangas State University remains steadfast in its adherence to international standards. It was given a three-star rating by Quacquarelli Symonds Stars University rating, and is part of the Top Universities list. Through Proclamation No. 947, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte designated the BatStateU Knowledge, Innovation, and Science Technology or KIST Park as a Special Economic Zone. It is the first KIST Park registered by the Philippine Economic Zone Authority or PEZA.

The National Engineering University

Batangas State University (BatStateU) is the Philippines’ National Engineering University (The NEU) by virtue of Republic Act No. 11694 enacted on April 11, 2022. Established in 1903, this Level IV state university is strategically located at the second largest economic region in the Philippines – CALABARZON, specifically in the Province of Batangas, which puts it at a prime position not only as a premier provider of higher and advanced learning, but also as a viable economic development zone.
